Day 1: Here's the Updated Dealio

Ok.   So, I'm updating my thinking on this contest blog.  I figure that one of the most recent fads is: doing something everyday for an entire year.   People have been doing things like committing to happiness, cooking a Juila Child recipe or not producing waste for an entire year on a daily basis.  They write about it, get a book deal and then BAM!...they get on Oprah.  One woman even did everything Oprah said  to do for a year, wrote a book about it...and ended up on Oprah.  Very meta.

So I am going to enter at least one contest or sweepstakes everyday for the next year.
And although I know Opes won't be broadcasting her show by the time that this blog finishes its year course, perhaps I'll get on her OWN network somehow.  That will be like winning the ultimate contest.  Oh victory, thy name is Winfrey.

Today's Contest:  I clicked on a Time Out NY link in my gmail inbox, and there was a contest submission for free Off-Broadway theater tickets for a year from nycgo.com.  It's a one day contest and the winners will be announced on the 31st .  Seems like they are bringing attention to their theater site which offers a 2-for-1 discounts on Off-Broadway shows and post show drinks.  This is great, because theater can be beaucoup bucks.  And even though I'm a thea-tah type myself, I often defer to the cheaper $13 entertainment option of a movie which, even if disappointing, is still not that much.  Additionally, unlike theater, I don't feel the need to give a standing ovation at the end of a movie to feel like I've gotten my money's worth.  Though, of the shows on the 2-4-1 Off-B'way list, I've seen Fuertza Bruta and had a blast.   I did actually give it a standing O...not only because it's totally great, but because you're actually standing the whole time.
