Blu Dot just finished running a contest where you can barter a crazy skill or thing you own, for a chance to win a piece of furniture. People were offering original haiku poems, having their mom give moral support with a call to you each week for a year, and spork collections.
My sister in law told me about this, and I literally had 30 minutes to figure out what to enter before the contest ended. I ended up offering a virtual Skype tour of NYC to anyone who hasn't been here before. I'll run around the city with my laptop and them on Skype and give them a full 360 experience... like see incredible architecture, go get hotdogs at Nathan's on Coney Island and give money to a homeless person.
Under the time constraint I wasn't totally pleased with what I came up with. I think a more original idea would have been to offer half of the winnings off my next blog win...whether that's half of a $5,000 win or half a box of chocolate I get.
